FAQ

HERE ARE A LIST OF ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE ABOUT COUNSELLING IN GENERAL OR THE SERVICE I PROVIDE.

Q HOW CAN I START
The first step is to contact me ( Zeynep ) via phone or email to arrange an informal chat, where we can talk about your needs and concerns in about 10 min. I do not charge a fee for this initial consultation. Please contact me to arrange a time that is convenient for you. After this initial conversation we arrange an appointment for an assessment session, which is one hour.

Q WHAT HAPPENS IN THE FIRST SESSION?
During your first appointment you may be asked to speak about what has brought you to the counselling.
You will not be obliged to complete any tests or questionnaires, though depending on your personal requirements, specific assessments may be offered in the future as an adjunct to the therapy itself.
The pace and progress of the work is largely determined by you, and there is no reason to ‘push’ through issues beyond what you feel comfortable with.

Q HOW LONG DO THE SESSION LAST?
Ideally, one or more sessions per week are scheduled, depending upon your individual need and requirement at the time. Each session lasts about 50 minutes and is usually scheduled for the same time, on the same day each week. This is important in establishing a regular, safe and reliable ’space’ in which to do the work required.

Q HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?

Counselling is an individual experience and the length of time will depend on what issues you want to work on. At Yateley and Wokingham Counselling I offer open ended counselling; you and I will decide when you are ready to finish counselling.

Q WHAT IF I CAN’T ATTEND SESSIONS REGULARLY?
The efficacy of counselling or psychotherapy is largely dependent on the client’s commitment to their own process as well as the therapist’s knowledge, skills and experience. It is an endeavor in which both therapist and client make a mutual commitment to the work required.
There are bound to be rare occasions where clients cannot attend booked sessions. However by missing your appointment we know you understand that missed-sessions may be taking away someone else’s chance of committing to their emotional and psychological health.
Therefore, it is required that you re-schedule your appointment at least  min. 24 hours  in advance of any booking. Other clients, as well as your practitioner, will appreciate your courtesy.
Failure to cancel a booked session without adequate notice will result in a charge for your appointment.

Q WHAT ABOUT THE FEE?
Yes, there is a standard fee charged for each session.
All aspects concerning the payment of fees are openly discussed in the first appointment.

INDIVIDUAL SESSION ONE TO ONE  £60 per session

1 HOUR session is available some circumstances and £70 per session.

*There are limited concession spaces for  students and people  with very low income

Q WHAT IF I CANCEL MY SESSION?
If you cancel your appointment with less than 24  hours notice you will be charged full price of £60.  .

Q WHY DO FEES VARY FROM PRACTITIONER TO PRACTITIONER?
Many of our problems are caused by us not having ‘valued ourselves enough’ and embarking on a path to emotional health and well-being is likely to be one of the most important investments you will ever make in yourself. Perhaps even more so than many of the other things we spend significant amounts of money on in our life-time. For without healing from pain and attending to ‘things on the inside’ the ‘things on the outside’ may sometimes seem meaningless or even worthless.
The fee a psychotherapist or counsellor charges ought to reflect the skills, experience and professionalism the practitioner offers.

Q IS COUNSELLING CONFIDENTIAL?
As members of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and British Psychology Society (BPS) I adhere to strict confidentiality rules. Counselling is confidential. In rare cases where there may be exceptions to this, I as your counsellor will discuss this with you in the first session.

Q WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN A SESSION?
Counselling focuses on the client, IT IS ALL ABOUT YOU , so it depends on what you want to talk about. This is your chance to be listened to wholly. I may suggest particular ways of working other than talking, such as using Cognitive Behaviour techniques or an empty chair technique but this would be discussed with you first.

Q HOW LONG WILL I HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE FIRST APPOINTMENT?

Depends on us finding a mutually convenient time and day. Typically you should not have to wait longer than a week to be seen by me . Please call to discuss my current availability .

Q CAN I SEND OR BOOK SOMEONE ELSE  TO COUNSELLING?

I can only offer counselling if the individual has requested it themselves. It may be difficult but try to talk to them and encourage them to make an inquiry with me or send them links to useful websites

Q WHAT IF I DO NOT LIKE  YOU?

Hopefully this will not happen, but if you find the counselling relationship is not working for you, I will encourage you to be honest and open about it and you are welcome to ask for a recommendation about different therapist/counsellor.
